[Fan Account] Super Junior: Super Show 2

note from LiveManila:  Ava is a kpop fan. She attended Super Show 2 in Manila. Thank you, Ava for sharing your concert experience.

A week after Super Show 2, my voice is still hoarse. It is a positive sign that the concert was a blast.

Last Saturday, April 10, was the last leg of Super Junior’s Super Show 2 tour.

Super Junior on stage

That afternoon, the Araneta Coliseum was surrounded by a lot of people that showed their support for the 15-member South Korean group. Almost all of them carried posters, banners, light sticks, or wore blue, Super Junior’s color. The energy was high and you just couldn’t help but be infected with the crowd’s enthusiasm (as if I wasn’t enthusiastic enough).

When we entered the Big Dome, we saw that it was transformed. The arena was both a stage and a playground of the band. Everyone was excited. People screamed when some ads started to play on the big screen. It wasn’t time for Super Junior yet, but it was practice. We all had a lot of screaming to do.

As I settled in my seat, I was a bit disappointed with the number of blue light sticks that I saw. Then the lights dimmed and the blackness of the Dome was immediately replaced by a sapphire blue sea. I knew then that I should never underestimate the power of the ELFs (EverLasting Friends, the name of the Super Junior fans) again.

They started the concert with a couple of songs, and then the members had a chance to introduce themselves to the crowd. They each spoke a few words, danced, or said hi to the audience. That night, though, three members were absent, Hangeng, Kibum, and Kangin. Everyone loved Shindong when he walked out to the center of the stage with a piece of paper. He counted in tagalog and said a couple of expressions: Ano ba yan? and Pasensya na po!.

Some of the members also had solo performances (see set list below). They had so much fun on stage. While Kyuhyun was singing "Puff the Magic Dragon", some members had a play in the background. Heechul, Shindon, Ryeowook, and Donghae also sang "Chu~ ♡", a song by a South Korean girl band, f(x). Heechul dressed up as Sulli, Shindong as Victoria, Ryeowook as Luna, and Donghae as Amber (I guess we saw that coming, right?).

While it is obvious that they are enjoying themselves, their videos in between a handful of songs show the reality that the band is incomplete. They showed videos with the missing members. Everyone felt the absence of these members.

But the video that I find really find touching is this one:

Super Junior thanking all ELFs (from ELFs that supported them before and during their debut to ELFs that started supported them during that night by watching their concert)

Towards the end of the show, the band played with water guns and of course, the fans were ready as well. They showered the stage with various gifts and I am quite sure that they liked every present on stage. :)

Their last song was "Marry U". Super Junior United Philippines (SJUPH), their fan club here in the Philippines, asked everyone to bring white handkerchiefs with them to the show and these were supposed to be waved during this song. And the fans did just that, while they boys "Marry U", white handkerchiefs were waving with the blue light sticks. According to SJUPH, the white handkerchiefs symbolize pure love. And I’m pretty confident that the band felt it that night.

Near the end of the song, the band went around the stage, waved at the crowd, said Thank you and I love you both in Korean and English. While they were saying their final goodbyes and bowing, someone made me and all the ELFs present at that time incredibly happy. Kyuhyun gave a 90 degree bow to the audience. A 90 degree bow means deep gratitude and respect. He did this for more than a minute (yes, I love him, okay?).

One of the things that amazed me about this concert was the crowd’s reactions. When leader Leeteuk talked to the crowd in Korean, everyone seemed to understand him. Cheers were given for the band's upcoming album, and aaaaawww echoed through the Dome when he said it was their last song. We have different languages, but we understood each other perfectly. I think I have to agree with Donghae’s tweet: SUPER JUNIOR + ELF = ONE.
